    Course Summary

    The MBBS offered by St George’s University London is a Primary Medical Qualification. Graduates become eligible to begin the Foundation Programme defined by the General Medical Council. It is only open to students taking their first Bachelor’s level degree. Students with existing undergraduate qualifications should instead take St George’s Graduate Entry Medicine Program.

    Learning & Teaching

    Your learning is typically divided into specific ‘learning weeks’. Each subject will be supported by lectures, case-based learning resources, problem-based learning tutorials, self-directed study and practical or anatomy units as appropriate. Years 1 and 2 are largely devoted to Clinical Science. In year 3 you’ll engage in 5 week clinical attachments, and in your fourth year these will increase to 10 weeks each. In your 5th year you will shadow doctors in a series of assistantships.

    Career Possiblities

    Upon successful completion of the program, you will be prepared to embark on the General Medical Council’s Foundation Programme to finish your training as a doctor. This process takes a further two years. Note that you will still have to apply with the GMC and meet all of its Fitness to Practice standards. Only after you have achieved full registration with the GMC and received your license to practice medicine can you do so unsupervised.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 5 year MBBS degree and provisional registration with the GMC.

    Applicants must typically have achieved 3 A Levels at AAA or higher, which may not include General Studies but mist include Chemistry and either Biology and Human biology. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English. This can be demonstrated with an IELTS score of 7.0 overall, 7.0 in Writing and Speaking, and no less than 6.5 in any other section. Other tests are also accepted.
