    Course Summary

    St George’s University London’s Master’s in Physician Associate studies (MPAS) is one of the best of its kind in the UK today. This is partly due to the presence on campus of one the nation’s largest teaching hospitals, but also due to the unmatched quality of teaching the university provides. In fact, this program won the prestigious Best Postgraduate Teaching Team award.

    Over two to three years you will learn how to record medical histories, perform basic physical exams, order tests and analyse the results, diagnose common illnesses and develop treatment and/or management plans with the patient.

    Course Outline

    This is a two year program at full time, but may also be taken over 3 years at part time.

    Modules:

    • Applied Pharmacology

    You’ll gain a working knowledge of common drugs and their effects on the human body, and lays the groundwork for prescribing activity.

    • Evidence Based Practice in Healthcare

    This module makes sue you can make decisions based on clear evidence and critically appraise the decisions of others.

    • Foundations of Clinical Medicine

    Here you’ll learn the sciences which underpin diagnosis and treatment, but also all understanding of human disease and injury.

    • Investigations in Clinical Medicine

    This module addresses the role of the PA, and analyses the investigations you’ll perform in both primary and secondary care.

    • Personal and Professional Development for Physician Associates

    This module tracks your core clinical competencies, and documents your work in specific clinical conditions.

    • Physician Associate Applied Clinical Knowledge and Skills

    This module will see you applying the skills you’ve learned in actual clinical environments, under close professional supervision.

    Learning & Teaching

    St George’s strives to maintain engaging and compelling teaching conditions by choosing the appropriate method or methods for each module. These will involve large lecture classes, smaller group discussions and interactive tutorials, problem based learning sessions, practical and lab work, post mortem and anatomical studies and a range of community and clinical placements where you will engage in patient-oriented activities. Placements will include general medicine, paediatrics, geriatrics, emergency medicine, mental health and more.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 2 year MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved a 2:2 undergraduate degree in a life science subject. International qualifications are accepted, and can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English. This can be demonstrated with an excellent IELTS, Pearson or Cambridge English test score.
