    A BA in Business Law from St Mary’s University will prepare you for a career not as a lawyer but as a legal expert in your chosen industry, able to ensure strict compliance with all laws and regulations, and to navigate the always tricky waters of international and global commerce.

    This program can only be taken as a joint honours degree, and there are three degree pathways: Business Law and Business Management, Business Law and History or Business Law and Tourism. Though some options may be a bit industry specific, all pathways prepare you excellently for a career in managing a business, working in commerce or HR, or even government or public service.

    Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered over three years at full time.

    Over the three years of this program you’ll explore both the practical, vocational study of the law as well as studying abstract legal theory and the cultural ramifications of legal issues. The university’s team of lecturers are assembled form practicing experts and researchers in their fields, and will be available to support your studies outside of class contact time.

    Learning & Teaching

    St Mary’s University relies on a mixture of innovative and traditional teaching methods to convey each module. The exact nature varies from subject to subject and from lecturer to lecturer, but you can rest assured the methods will be chosen to best convey the content and to make what you learn as broadly applicable as possible. Lectures are common, as well as interactive workshops, computer aided learning, mock client-facing work and practice vivas.

    Career Possiblities

    St Mary’s Business Law BA is not a qualifying law degree on its own, but it is possible to transfer to the full LLB after year one in certain circumstances. Combined Honours Business Law graduates can look forward to a prosperous career in public service, insurance, HR or the banking and financial services industries. Alternatively, many graduates set up their own businesses, or go on to Master’s level degree programs.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full BA degree.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall and with no section scoring less than 5.5 would qualify, for example.
