    Course Summary

    The tourism industry is exploding, bot inside the UK and overseas. Currently some 2 the industry employs around 2 million people, supplying approximately 5% of all UK employment. Those numbers are expected to double in less than 10 years. However, the most desirable roles and leadership positons require a high degree of training.  A BA degree in Tourism Management from St Mary’s University demonstrates to employers that you have received that training, and can be trusted with responsibility in your field of specialisation.

    You’ll learn the basics of the industry and of commercial management in general, but you’ll also learn a great many industry-specific techniques, such as managing a tourist-facing operation in a socially responsible and economically sustainable way.

    You’ll have several options when it comes to your third year. Many students choose to spend a year working in the tourist industry in an arranged placement. This has the potential to boost your employability dramatically. Other options include a year studying abroad under the ERASMUS program. This might be arranged at a partner university in Australia, the US, France or Spain. This will give you a vital international perspective and might even help you learn a language as well.

    Learning & Teaching

    St Mary’s University relies on a mixture of innovative and traditional teaching methods to convey each module. The exact nature varies from subject to subject and from lecturer to lecturer. However, these methods will be chosen to best convey the content and to make it as applicable as possible to your chosen career. These will include project based work, one on one work with your academic tutor and even overseas fieldwork.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full BA degree.

    Students must typically have been awarded at least 72 UCAS Tariff points to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall and with no section scoring less than 5.5 would qualify, for example.
