    Swansea’s Accounting and Finance BSc is delivered in accordance with the latest research being done in these fields, much of it right there at Swansea University, by the staff teaching the modules.

    This program is the perfect choice for students who wish to pursue an education that bridges accounting and finance, and prepares them for a wide range of business and/or professional careers. The first two years have a very standardised curriculum but the 3rd is spent entirely in a paid work placement, and the 4th is dedicated to your choice of a wide range of highly specialised optional modules.

    Course Outline

    This course is delivered over 4 years at full time, including a ‘sandwich year’ if professional placement.

    Year 1:

    Year 2:

    Required Modules:

    • Corporate Finance 1
    • Financial Accounting 1A & 1B
    • Financial Markets and Institutions
    • Management Accounting 1A & 1B

    Year 3 (Placement):

    This year will be spent in a paid industrial or professional placement working in accounting or finance. This will give you not just vital workplace experience and an excellent entry on your CV, it will help you start building your professional network.

    Year 4

    There are no required modules in year 4. Instead, you have access to a wide range of electives. These will let you define your own specialty or specialties and prepare you for your chosen career path. Note that you must select at least 90 credits worth of Accounting and Finance modules, of which no less than 15 credits can be from Finance. You should aim for 60 credits n each of the two terms.

    Career Possibilities

    A large part of this degree program is the year in paid placement. Of course there is nothing requiring you to go back to work for the organisation you placed with, but many graduates do. Other options abound, and contacts can be made at events like the Business in the Bay competition, the Employability Module, the Careers fair, the Week of Work and SPIN initiatives, or from career advice delivered directly by the School of Management.

    Entry Requirements

    For UK and EU-nationals:

    This BSc program typically requires applicants to have achieved 3 A Levels of BBB or better, BTEC at DDM or higher, or one of a number of equivalent academic certifications.

    For overseas(non-EU) students:

    International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.0 or better overall, and no less than 5.5 each component, or with one of several equivalent exams.

    International students must also have earned an educational certification that is the equivalent of that required for UK and EU students. The requirements can be found here.
