This degree program can be taken as a full MSc, or in an accelerated program as a PgDip or even a PgCert. In the end, this allows you the flexibility of determining your own desired degree or certification status, as well as how much time and effort you wish to commit to the program. The differences in the various award pathways are described below. Applicants without a first degree ay only register for a PgCert or PgDip.

    Course Outline

This program is typically delivered over a single year at full time, but can also be taken over 3 years at part time.

Though this is presented as an MSc program, there are three levels of certification you can be awarded. If you complete the core modules, you can exit with a Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert). If you complete the specialist modules you’ll qualify for a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip). Finally, if you complete the Dissertation requirement, you can exit with the full MSc in Cardiology.

    Core (PgCert) Modules include:

    • Invasive and Interventional Cardiology
    • Fundamentals of Cardiac Diagnostic Procedures and Investigations
    • Acute Cardiology Principles and Practice

    Specialised (PgDip) Modules Include:

    • Communication, Learning and Teaching in Health and Social Care
    • Research Methods and Critical Appraisal

    Optional Modules include:

    • Leading and Transforming Services
    • Quality, Safety and Service Improvement in Clinical Services

    Assessment

Each module will be assessed primarily via a 3,000 word evaluation of a relevant topic, to be agreed with the module leader or via unseen written exam.

    Learning & Teaching

Taught modules will be delivered in a variety of ways, depending on the nature of the material and the skills or preferences of the course tutor. Individual or small scale tutorials, interactive seminars and in-depth lectures will all be common, and most programs will also make extensive use of work placements, field trips and site visits, laboratory or workshop sessions and more. You will also do a great deal of independent study and reading.

    Career Possiblities

Brighton University’s MSc, PgDip or PgCert in Cardiology will demonstrate that graduates have a broad and detailed command of the latest thinking in the field. They will be further able to demonstrate their suitability to employers or PhD programs via their portfolios of advanced leadership and research skills. They will be very well prepared to build or enhance their careers as cardiology experts or practitioners, and should qualify for a wide range of advanced roles.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in an MSc degree, a PgDip or a PgCert.

Students must typically have achieved medical registration or a similar professional certification to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An overall IELTS score of 7.0 with no section scoring less than 6.5 would qualify, for example.
