    Course Summary

Edinburgh Napier University’s BEng program in Civil Engineering is a great way to forge a career in this exciting profession, and to ready you for the qualifications you’ll need to attain the coveted status of Chartered Engineer.

Civil Engineering is not a single career, but rather an umbrella category which covers a wide range of specialisations. These include Transportation engineering, environmental engineering, structural engineering (and hydraulic structural engineering), water engineering and geo-techniques. All of these rely on key skills such as geotechnical engineering, construction surveying, Structural analysis, and the use of a wide range of computer modelling applications.

This program will not only give you a basic understanding of all of the above specialties, it will allow you to choose your own field of specialty from among a long list. Anyone with a technically oriented mind and skill in both mathematics and organisational management should consider enrolling in the program.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
