    Course Outline

By the time you finish this course, you’ll have achieved an advanced understanding of business and international finance in particular.

    Year 1:

You’ll learn to apply quantitative data analysis, and be able to appreciate the complexities of business problems. You will also come to understand the global financial sector as a whole, after taking units that focus on commercial banking, corporate finance and international business finance.

    Year 2:

After building a solid framework, you’ll be able to choose your own optional modules to shape your expertise and area of specialty. Some of the more popular specialties include risk and insurance, the economics of globalisation and international investment.

    Tear 3:

You will finish this course by presenting a research dissertation. This will be based on a topic of your choosing, and will form the core of your new expertise.

    Learning & Teaching

You will experience many forms of instruction at the Leeds University Business School. These include group tutorials and online learning, seminars and workshops and of course large lecture classes. Independent study will also be a vital part of your degree, and will reinforce your critical thinking and research skills. Each module will be assessed individually, as will your final dissertation.

    Career Possiblities

For the majority of students of this program, the plan is to begin rewarding careers. An LU degree in Banking and Finance gives you the skills and theoretical understanding you need to take your place in the international banking and finance industry right away. In addition, you will have received professional training and attended employability workshops both as part of your primary curriculum and as optional activities.

The University of Leeds also has important connections to many of the most important companies in the UK and global finance industries, and has the benefit of their input when training their graduates.

However, that is far from your only option. The skills you learn in this program are highly transferrable, most especially your enhanced communication, research and analysis training.

Many students instead go on to PhD level classes rather than going directly into public or private sector work.
