    Course Summary

    Computers are a part of nearly everything we do in the modern world. The amount of computer science research behind every advance in the IT industry is staggering, and the industry needs more BSc and MEng Computer Science graduates than ever.

    The University of Leeds’ Computer Science program begins with the very fundamentals of information technology – mathematics and programming – leading up to the most advanced, state of the art theories and techniques that tomorrow’s graduates will need to secure rewarding careers in this field.

    This course can be taken as a 3-year BSc program, or a 4-year integrated BSc and MEng program.

    Course Outline

    Year 1:

    Your first year focuses on the common core elements of all of the University of Leeds’s computer science programs. After completing your first year it would be very simple to shift your focus to another program, such as Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence.

    Year 2:

    The core modules in your second year deal with algorithms, artificial intelligence and computer networks. You will also be able to select several optional modules to begin specialising your expertise.

    Year 3:

    Year 3 offers you a wide range of new optional modules, including robotics, app design, computer security and more.

    Year 4 (MEng):

    If you stay on for a 4th year, your degree will be a Master’s of Engineering. Specialty modules now available to you would include bio-computation, natural language processing and other cutting edge topics. There will also be a substantial group project.

    Learning & Teaching

    Leeds University champions integrated learning techniques. For this program, those will include laboratory classes and practical project work, but also industrial visits which will feature tutorials delivered in real world situations.

    You will also have a personal academic tutor, with whom you will meet weekly with a group of 4 other students throughout your first year, and individually not less than once per semester.

    Career Possiblities

    This degree program is fully BCS accredited. Combined with the rapid growth of industries that rely on computer science, your career prospects as a graduate will be excellent. More than 90% of UL students who successfully complete this program have either entered employment or are seeking a more advanced degree within 6 months of graduation.

    Entry Credit

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    The University of Leeds’ Computer Science degree program requires you to have achieved 3 A Levels of AAA or better. These must include either Mathematics or Computing.

    Alternatively, a GCSE score of English Language C/4 or better can be accepted.

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students

    International students must be fluent in written and Spoken English. That can be evidenced with an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no component scoring less than 5.5.
