    A BA (with honours) in Sports Business Management from the University of Stirling will prepare you to enter into a career in the complex, competitive and extremely dynamic world of the Sports and Entertainment industry. You’ll gain understanding of a wide range of issues such as social responsibility, event management, sponsorship, branding and marketing strategy.

    Course Outline

    This course is delivered over 4 years at full time. The modules listed below represent the 2017/2018 course load, and may well have some changes from year to year.

    In the first two years of this program, you’ll gain a grounding in business, management and sport generally, in the modern global context.

    Year 1:

    Required Modules:

    • The Global Business Environment
    • Introduction to Sports Studies 1 & 2
    • The Management Challenge: An Introduction                                        

    Year 2:

    Required Modules:

    • Fundamentals of Business Management
    • Sports Studies – Issues and Concepts
    • Operations Management
    • The Historical development of Sport

    Your remaining 2 years will focus on both theory and how to apply it. You’ll look at concepts of marketing, policy and event management in great detail as well as developing your professional skills.

    Year 3:

    Required Modules:

    • Sports Policy
    • Sport Marketing
    • Financial and Business Modelling (Sports)
    • Developing Sustainable Events
    • Managing the Business of Sport
    • Managing the Consumer Experience

    Year 4:

    Required Modules:

    • Project Management (Sport)
    • Sport Governance
    • Work-Based Dissertation Project

    Learning & Teaching

    Taught modules will include a fairly standard mix of seminars, interactive tutorials and lecture classes. A typical semester will see you taking three modules worth 20 credits each, and will last 11 weeks. The exception will be the last semester, which will be largely devoted to your Dissertation / Project.

    The University of Stirling’s Sports Business Management gives you the skills and knowledge you need to find the right opportunity in a sports business or similar organisation. Graduates have gone on to become project managers, event managers or mangers of retail businesses in many sports-related fields.

    Entry Credit

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    This BA program typically requires applicants to have achieved 3 A Levels of BBB or better, SQA Highers at AABB or higher, or one of a number of equivalent academic certifications.

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students  

    International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.0 or better overall, with no less than 5.5 in any one component.
