    Course Summary

It has been said that a good Architect-Planner can design anything from a door handle to an entire city. A BA degree in Architecture and City Planning from the University of the West of England is a great way to earn a very unique and sought-after set of skills. You’ll learn the basics and finer points of architecture, to be sure, but you’ll also learn how to apply city planning and architectural principles together to achieve better, more ecologically sustainable and more humanely liveable built environments.

This is one of only five Architecture and Planning courses offered in the UK. The program is unique in that it is the only one accredited both by the Royal Town Planning Institute and the Royal Institute for British Architects. It will culminate in a year-long project planning a complex urban area and a 6 week working placement with a local planning authority, architect’s office, or similar organisation.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
