    Course Summary

    This combined MEng/BEng Mechanical Engineering degree program is presented by the University of the West of Scotland as a pathway to a professional career as a mechanical engineer or a researcher in mechanical engineering. It will equip you well to pursue a career in a range of manufacturing, design or engineering roles.

    You’ll learn the mathematical and scientific principles which underlie modern engineering as well as learning to ‘think outside the box’ by adopting flexible yet practical approach to engineering problems. You’ll become familiar with industry standard tools and equipment as well.

    This course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, who work under license from the UK’s Engineering Council. As a result, you can select modules which provide important exemptions from testing into full membership with this body. Though you’ll still have to take several tests to achieve Chartered Engineer status, the requirements are much less onerous and much more convenient.

    Learning & Teaching

    UWS’s teaching methods vary depending on the subject matter being presented, but typically include lectures, skills workshops and interactive tutorials at a minimum. You’ll also experience guided laboratory work and do a great deal of reading, study and revision, either individually or in small groups.

    This program is chiefly assessed using formal written examinations, various types of coursework and a practical skills assessment. You may also apply language modules to your degree credits.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a combined BEng/MEng degree.

    Applicants must typically have earned 3 A Levels, 102 UCAS Tariff points or the international equivalent. The full list of qualifications which are accepted can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. A good IELTS score would qualify, for example.
