    Course Summary

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s MA in Computer Animation is in many ways similar to the MArt in Computer Animation they offer as a follow-on to their BA in Computer Animation. However, this is a fully stand-alone program open to students with a 2:1 or better undergraduate degree in almost any discipline or subject. It is even open to those without that first degree requirement but who have a great deal of industry experience and perhaps some amount of professional accreditation.

You’ll learn about conceptual design, modelling characters and objects in CG, and both 2D and 3D animation techniques. In time you’ll also master at direction, storytelling techniques, composition and visual effects, and emerging technologies such as motion capture, virtual reality augmented reality and more. You’ll be able to apply these skills to feature films, television productions, advertising, computer games, the educational sector and in many other contexts.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Course Outline

This degree program is typically delivered over a single year at full time.

    First Semester Subjects Include:

    • 3D Animation
    • Production Methods
    • Production Management
    • Pre-Production
    • Post Production

In your second semester, you’ll be expected to deliver a major computer animation project. This will be a team based exercise, and everyone in your group or cohort will play a particular part according to their interests, career goals and skills. Each role within the project will need to demonstrate a deep knowledge and complete understanding of the field of computer animation, as well as an advanced familiarity with your own area of special expertise.

Not only should this provide you with an opportunity to cement the skills you’ve learned in part one with actual practice, it will give you something substantial to add to your portfolio. This will enable you to demonstrate your skills within your narrow specialty to potential employers, investors or collaborators.
