    Course Summary

Civil Engineering is about the conception, design, construction and maintenance of the built environment infrastructure that the country relies upon every day. It also includes supervising ongoing building projects and ensuring that the next generation of roads, highways, dams, sewage plants, bridges and other features perform better than the last.

A BEng in Civil Engineering from the University of West London is designed to give you all of the background knowledge, analytical ability and technical skills you’ll need to become a Chartered Civil Engineer. You’ll learn the core concepts of Civil Engineering, including Highway and Transportation Engineering, Hydraulics, Geotechnics and Structural Engineering.

This program includes an optional year in industrial placement. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn real world skills in a context specific to your chosen career pathway. Employers look for this kind of practical experience, and many placement hosts end up offering permanent positions upon graduation.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
