    Course Summary

The University of West London’s LLB program is a qualifying law degree as recognised by the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority as well as the Bar. It will give you a contextual, theoretical understanding of the law and the lawyer’s place within it, as well as the practical skills you need to apply these perspectives for the benefit of your clients.

This program is very well thought of, by the legal profession and by its students. In fact, WLU’s law program was voted the number one law program in London for student satisfaction, and number 2 in student satisfaction UK-wide. The Guardian University Guide for 2019 ranked the course at #7 in London across a wide range of metrics.

This program includes many opportunities for work and volunteer placement at organisations like the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, the Free Representation Unit, or university-run organisations like the Student Law Clinic or the Community Advice Programme.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Course Outline

This degree program is typically delivered over 3 years at full time.

Years one and two consist entirely of ‘core’ modules which are common to all LLB students. In addition to your classroom work, you’ll have opportunities to provide client-facing advice and to shadow lawyers at work.

    Year 1 Modules Include:

    • The English Legal System
    • Criminal Law and Process
    • Contract Law
    • Constitutional and Administrative Law

    Year 2 Modules Include:

    • The Law of Torts
    • Land Law
    • European Union Law
    • Equity and Trusts

Year three consists entirely of elective modules. You’ll choose any six from the options provided, in line with your interests and desired career pathway. You’ll also be encouraged to gain work experience at the CAB, the FRU or at the school’ own advice centre in Ealing.

    Year 3 Modules Include:

    • Sentencing
    • Public International Law
    • International Human Rights
    • Intellectual Property Law
    • Immigration Law
    • Family Law
    • Evidence
    • Employment Law
    • Company Law
    • Community Legal Advice
    • Commercial and Consumer Law
    • Civil Litigation and Practice

    Learning & Teaching

The University of West London’s LLB program is primarily delivered through its modules. The majority of these modules will employ practical skills workshops, interactive tutorials, small seminars and large, formal lecture classes. The exact make-up varies depending on the subject matter at hand and the preferences of the class tutor. You’ll also gain experience giving advice and support directly to clients under close supervision and make trips to local, national and European courts at work.

    Career Possiblities

This is a qualifying law degree, so most students go the ‘practice’ route, seeking a training contract after graduation. After completing the training contract, they will be able to practice law in the UK as a barrister or solicitor (depending on the training received). However, many students prefer to enter into a higher level degree program upon graduation. The University of West London offers several specialised LLM courses, as do many other fine universities.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a 3 year LLB degree.

Applicants must typically have earned 112-128 UCAS Tariff points or the international equivalent. The full list of qualifications can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test such as the IELTS.
