    Course Summary

Accounting is at the core of almost every type of business. It is the common ground and jargon which allows governments, regulators, investors, managers and planners the ability to communicate with precision and make god decisions about finance.

York’s BSc in Accounting, Business, Finance and Management not only gives you the accounting skills you need to thrive in any business environment, it puts them into the context of business, management and finance so they can easily be applied in any situation. Graduates develop problem solving and technical skills, communication and leadership expertise, critical thinking skills and an awareness of the types of problems all businesses face sooner or later.

This program offers an optional year in industry placement. This represents an excellent opportunity to develop real world experience and make business contacts. If you do not elect to take a year in placement, this is a 3 year degree.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Course Outline

This program is delivered over the course of 4 years, or 3 if taken without a placement year.

    Year 1:

During your first year of the program, you’ll undertake the core curriculum of all of the University of York’s Accounting, Management and Finance degrees.

    Year2:

By your second year you will have mastered the basics of the discipline, and will begin to supplement it with more detailed, specialist modules.

    Placement Year 3:

Most students will opt for a paid placement year at this time. It will give you an important chance to practice your new skills, gaining vital real-world experience. Many students leave their placement with the promise of a job even before they graduate.

    Year 4:

In your last year with the program, you’ll take the optional modules which will come to define your specialty, and hopefully your practice area in your later career.

    Summer Abroad:

Students are also encouraged to build international, multicultural experience by taking a short course, a career-related class or a volunteering opportunity overseas.

    Learning & Teaching

As you take the program you’ll learn directly from world leaders in their fields. York’s approach to learning and teaching is to give you access to all of the resources you need to excel. This includes taught knowledge, but also support and opportunities to make contacts in business and industry.

    Career Possiblities

In addition to your formidable technical skills, you’ll be armed with the skills you’ve gained from York’s bespoke employability sessions. You’ll also have the advantage of being certified by the ICAEW and the CIMA, and would be exempt from a number of requirements others would have to pass before practicing as an accountant.

Many recent graduates from this program have started rewarding careers as Technology Consultants, Tax Consultants, Investment Bankers, HR Executive Graduates, Financial Advisory Associates, Business Consultants, Auditors, Analysts or Accountants, or even become CEOs of their own start-up firms.
