    Course Summary

    The University of York’s combined BEng / BSc (Hons) Computer Science program combines two of their most popular degrees – the Bachelors of English and the Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering. In fact, you may choose which degree you will be awarded at the end of the program, selecting whichever credentials will serve you better in your career or academic advancement.

    As a student of the Computer Science program, you’ll gain an understanding of electronic hardware and components, software coding, and the way both are integrated into the systems which drive commerce, industry and everyday life in the modern world.

    Course Outline

    This program is delivered over the course of 4 years.

    Year 1:

    Your first year will be dedicated to gaining a basic understanding of the maths and theory behind computer science, as well as the computer architecture, programming languages and interface technology that makes up modern systems.

    Year2:

    In addition to expanding your understanding of Computer Science’s basics, you’ll begin to take the specialist modules which will really define your future. You will undertake either a software or hardware based project at this time as well.

    Year 3:

    You may compete for an industrial placement during your third year, with companies such as Airbus UK, YorkTest or IBM. Many students leave their placement with the promise of a job even before they graduate.

    Year 4:

    If you do not take a year in placement, this will be your year 3. You can select from a wide range of elective modules designed to give you control over your specialty and prepare you to excel in your career.

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    The University of York’s BEng / BSc (Hons) Computer Science program requires 3 A Levels at ABB or better, or their equivalent.

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students
