    Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s BEng in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering is designed to give you the practical, technical and scientific skills you need to succeed in either of these discrete fields or to combine your engineering practice at the highest levels.

    You’ll learn all about engineering design in this course, which pays special attention to all aspects of the engineering design process. You’ll also learn important transferrable skills which can help you land a range of different roles in business or other areas of employment.

    You can also take this course with an integrated foundation degree. This is of particular appeal to anyone who has been out of formal education for some time or who might not have the credentials necessary to begin a BEng course otherwise. The foundation year program will quickly bring you up to speed on modern university learning, and ensure that you have the mathematical and scientific background you’ll need to succeed as an engineer.

    Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered over three years at full time.

    Year 1 Modules Include:

    • Engineering Design and Practice
    • Engineering Mathematics
    • Materials and Manufacturing
    • Mechanical Science

    Year 2 Modules Include:

    • Avionics, Flight Dynamics and Control
    • Business and Research Development
    • Engineering and Mechanism Dynamics and Engineering Design
    • Further Engineering Mathematics
    • Structures Analysis
    • Thermo-fluid and Propulsion

    Year 3 Modules Include:

    • Aerodynamics
    • Engineering Modelling and Simulation
    • Structural Vibration Analysis

    Optional Modules Include:

    • Advanced Thermo-fluid and Turbomachinery
    • Aircraft Stability, Control and Design
    • Composite Materials

    Each of the modules above represents approximately 36 ‘contact hours’ and at least 160 additional hours of independent study.

    In addition, you’ll complete an Honours Dissertation as the capstone to the program. This will be based upon an Individual Project which you will design, initiate, produce and evaluate, with the help and mentorship of the senior academic staff. It should display your understanding of skills like aircraft design, flight control and stability, aerodynamics, thermodynamics and structural vibration.

    Learning And Teaching

    Wrexham Glyndŵr University delivers its degree programs through a mixture of different teaching and assessment methods. These will include a great deal of self-directed reading and study, e-learning and distance learning, practical skills workshops, interactive tutorials and large scale lectures.

    You will receive detailed instruction on and experience using the advanced tools, facilities and testing equipment housed in the university’s labs and facilities. Academic skills tutors will also be available to all Wrexham students.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full BEng degree.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. A good IELTS score would qualify, for example.
