    Course Summary

    Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s MSc in Biomedical Science prepares you for an exciting and rather lucrative career as a biomedical scientists, working with the NHS or a wide range of private sector medical industry, laboratory or research posts.

    The program will see you exploring several specialist areas of the science, but also learning general skills in research, the biology of disease, and the modern applications of biomedical science. In essence, you’ll learn how biomedical scientists aid in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human disease and clinical disorders. 

    You’ll develop the skills you need to practice as a Higher Specialist. This will include the use of cutting edge laboratory equipment, and a deep understanding of flow cytometry, molecular analysis, fluorescence microscopy and other procedures as you work with the North Wales Clinical Research institute.

    You’ll also earn a professional certification in addition to your MSc, as you’ll be certified by the IBMS (Institute of Biomedical Science).

    Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered over a single year at full time

    Over two trimesters, you’ll take a total of six taught modules outlined below.

    This is a full time program, yet is typically delivered over just 2 days every week. This allows for degree work and class participation to be arranged around work, family or other commitments. You’ll attend one three hour teaching block each week per module you are taking. Each teaching block will consist of a lecture and a tutorial session.

    You’ll be exploring research methods throughout trimester 2, and should submit a research proposal on or about the end of that trimester. Your proposal will form the spur for your third trimester work, which will consist exclusively of a research project.

    Learning And Teaching

    Wrexham Glyndŵr University delivers its degree programs through a mixture of different teaching and assessment methods. These will include a great deal of self-directed reading and study, e-learning and distance learning, practical skills workshops, interactive tutorials and large scale lectures.

    You will be assessed via several kinds of coursework, but most modules will feature a research or laboratory component. Academic skills tutors will also be available to all Wrexham students.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full MSc degree.

    Students must typically have been awarded at least a 2:2 first degree and relevant work experience to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no component scoring less than 5.5 would qualify, for example.
