    Course Summary

    A BA in Journalism & Media Production from the University for the Creative Arts could lead you to a successful career in online media, the print medium, radio or television.     Course Outline

    This BA course is delivered over 3 years at full time.

    Year 1:

    From your first days, you’ll be learning real techniques for creating accurate, emotionally moving stories using words, images and all of the other tools each medium grants you. You’ll also study how to build a useful online presence.

    • Getting it out there
    • Narratives
    • Media Futures

    Year 2:

    In year 2 you’ll explore content production, and come to understand the legal and ethical responsibilities broadcasters and other media face.

    Modules Include:

    • TV, Media and Society
    • On Air I
    • Narrative Journalism
    • Law and Working in the Media Industries
    • Study Abroad (optional)

     

    Year 3:

    In year three you’ll research and write a major piece as a part of your dissertation. You’ll also undertake work experience and develop advanced live broadcasting skills.

    Learning & Teaching

    UCA uses a CPD scheme which has been fully accredited by the HEA. It encourages professional development and additional learning through various workshops, webinars and supplementary or alternative accreditation routes. They have also developed a bespoke online platform to ensure that all students have access to their learning and teaching resources. They rely on concepts like Peer-Supported Review to encourage meaningful reflection on your own work as well as that of others.

    Journalists, broadcasters and news agencies of all kinds are facing tremendous competition to meet audience demands in an ethical, professional way. This is just what your degree will have prepared you to offer. Graduates have taken roles such as Publisher, Copywriter, Researcher, Editor, Director of Marketing, Social Media Manager, Screenwriter, Producer, Presenter and Production assistant with organisations like BBC Five Live, Reuters, The Times and Channel 4.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BA degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved at least 112 new UCAS tariff points, 27+ points in an IB Diploma, or the equivalent. The full list of UK and overseas qualifications accepted can be found here.  

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in the English language.
