    Course Summary

IT and Computing Science is an incredibly active field, and on which is hiring in ever growing numbers. Organisations in nearly all industries and economic sectors need skilled CS graduates to create the software, hardware and processes they need to thrive in an ever more competitive world.

The University of Alberta’s Computing Science department boasts more than 42 faculty members, 500 undergraduate students and 200 grad students, as well as another 25 post-doctorate fellows. You’ll be able to explore topics ranging from robotics to bioinformatics there.

You can remain a generalist throughout your education. However, you can also select modules with an eye towards specialisation in one or more areas as well. In fact, with the wide array of minors and double majors also available to you, you can personalise your degree to an amazing level. Optional modules should be chosen to align with both your personal interests and passions as well as with your chosen career path.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
