    Course Summary

Engineering is an incredibly broad field, which touches upon nearly every aspect of our daily lives. The University of Birmingham’s General Engineering program is intended to give students a broad yet detailed basis for choosing a specific aspect of engineering on which to focus in their later academic career.

You will learn critical skills like working in teams with other engineers and solving real world engineering problems as presented by experts drawn from the electronic, electrical and systems engineering, mechanical engineering and civil engineering worlds.

As you become more skilled in your chosen specialty, you will also have the opportunity to meet some of the most important names in the engineering field, as faculty members, visiting lecturers, and as participants in the University’s research projects.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills.
