    Course Summary

If you are already skilled in one or more scientific disciplines – either through A Levels, HND or any equivalent qualification – you might consider a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Bolton University. It would be a great way to enter a rapidly growing industry, and one which demands far more skilled Engineering graduates than the UK’s universities can supply.

This program is designed to give you the scientific and engineering understanding needed to take up a career as a Mechanical Engineer in a wide range of different industries. You’ll learn how to apply the principles of mechanical engineering to real world situations, and will have the opportunity to work with the latest equipment and software systems for mechanical engineers. These include software packages such as Declam, Ansys, SolidWorks and more, using them to design, analyse, prototype and control your engineering projects.

You’ll learn in a welcoming environment, with access to the latest in laboratory equipment as well as the supervision of internationally recognised engineering researchers.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

Bolton University’s Engineering courses are typically delivered via lectures, seminars and tutorial sessions. The lecture classes serve to introduce new ideas and content. Next, seminar sessions help you explore that material more deeply and to relate it to practical concerns. Finally, you can use the tutorials to interact directly with tutors, asking questions and cementing your comprehension of the course content. You’ll typically be assessed via exams, essays and other coursework.

    Career Possiblities

Bolton’s Engineering programs are intended to turn out highly employable graduates. As a result, you’ll have a deep understanding of not just the mathematics, science and technical skills of the discipline, but also an insight into business and management.

Many recent graduates have joined the electrical, consumer goods, defence, sport, medical, construction, chemical or automotive industries either in the UK or abroad. Others have found rewarding careers in manufacturing, production management, technical sales or water engineering.

    Entry Credit

Successful completion will result in a full BEng degree.

Students must typically have been awarded 96 UCAS Tariff Points to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall and with no section scoring less than 5.5 would qualify, for example.
