    An MSc in Psychology from the University of Bolton will prepare you for a wide range of careers, to pursue a PhD or MPhil degree, or to study for Chartered Psychologist status.

    You’ll study learning, socialisation and the development of language, as well as how to counsel patients and treat various mental illnesses. You’ll come to understand the science that underlies the discipline of psychology, and how it can be applicable to people’s lives. You’ll do all that in the University of Bolton’s state of the art teaching, research and laboratory facilities.

    Note that whilst this degree program is recognised by the BPS – the British Psychological Society – successful completion with NOT convey Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership to you. However, you can achieve GBC if you take the university’s MSC Psychology (Conversion) program. If GBC is an important part of your career plans, you should discuss this with the university and make sure you enrol in the right course.

    Bolton was one of the first UK universities to offer psychology degrees, and its tradition of excellence continues to this day. In fact, all of your instructors at the MSc level hold postgraduate qualifications themselves, and most are active, published researchers.     Learning & Teaching

    Bolton University’s Psychology courses are generally delivered via lectures, seminars and tutorial sessions. The lecture classes serve to introduce new ideas and content. Next, seminar sessions help you explore that material more deeply and to relate it to practical concerns. Finally, you can use the tutorials and practical activities to interact directly with tutors and classmates, asking questions and cementing your comprehension of the course content. You’ll typically be assessed via exams, essays and other coursework.

    Career Possiblities

    Bolton’s MSc degree program in Psychology is intended to leave graduates career-ready. Though you’ll need further study to achieve Chartered Psychologist status within the BPS, that is not your only option. Recent graduates have made successful careers for themselves in a range of medical roles, retail management, marketing, human resources and many other roles.

    You’ll also be prepared to continue your studies, either seeking a PhD or MPhil, or to join a graduate scheme which combine advanced training with long term employment contracts.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full MSc degree.

    Students must typically have been awarded a 2:1 or better first degree to apply. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.5 overall and with no section scoring less than 6.0 would qualify, for example.
