    Accounting is a fascinating and very lucrative field. More than just ‘book-keepers’, accountants today devise better methods of estimating costs, investigate potential fraud, collect and disseminate financial information and make all of that easily accessible and understandable to managers and decision makers. 

    The University of Calgary’s Bachelor of Commerce or ‘BCom’ degree will teach you what you need to qualify as a Chartered Professional Accountant, or prepare you too take your place in a wide range of different business careers. A solid command of numbers and an understanding of finance will help you make you a success in nearly any business context. 

    You’ll develop a core understanding of the concepts which underlie accounting, become familiar with the hardware and software tools modern accountant use, and develop all the skills an entry-level accountant is required to possess. You’ll know how to complete common projects and to deliver formal reports to your superiors.

    Learning And Teaching

    The University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business uses a variety of innovative, progressive teaching methods to deliver its business degrees. Of course there will be traditional lectures, seminars and skills tutorials. However, you will also have access to student clubs such as the Haskayne Students’ Association and access to the school’s Mentoring Program as well as many different professional skills programs. You may also be able to participate in research-intensive coursework as part of the Honours program.

    In addition to management and accounting skills, you’ll develop the professional skills you need to thrive in Canada’s competitive business community.     Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a full BCom degree. 

    To apply, you’ll need to have completed a secondary education including Statistics, Mathematics, Economics and English content. Diverse qualifications are accepted. 

    All classes are taught in English unless otherwise specified, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
