    The University of Cumbria’s Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging specialising in Ultrasound is a great choice for both qualified vascular scientists and health care professionals to become specialists in ultrasound imaging technology and its clinical application. This diploma program is fully accredited by CASE, the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education. As such, it will allow you to change the trajectory of your career to include ultrasound imaging.

    You’ll learn to use the latest ultrasound imaging equipment, leveraging your existing familiarity with radiography, nursing or any other clinical or related specialism to support your added expertise. You’ll become familiar with the sciences which support ultrasound imaging, and be trained in all aspects of safe clinical practice to recognised national standards.

    You’ll learn in several ways: in class, via the university’s Virtual Learning Environment and in one of the largest and best equipped MedaPhor ultrasound simulation laboratories in the world.

    Course Outline

    This program is typically delivered in part time, and is very flexible. As a result it can be completed in a single year or over up to three years.  

    It will be delivered both face to face and through the university’s Virtual Learning Environment. Over one to three years you will learn to be an autonomous practitioner in the field of ultrasound imaging, providing safe and competent evidence-bases ultrasound practice as a part of nearly any kind of medical team.

    Learning & Teaching

    The curriculum of the University of Cumbria’s courses will include all of the expected teaching methods, most notably large scale lectures, guest speakers or presentations, peer review on coursework, interactive seminars, skills workshops, work learning, simulations and extensive use of the university’s Blackboard and Pebblepad Virtual learning Environments. A great deal of emphasis will be placed on integrating the science behind ultrasound imaging with evidence-based practice and clinical care provision.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Medical Imaging with a specialisation in Ultrasound.

    Students must typically have been awarded a first or second class honours degree in a related healthcare or science subject to apply. You must also have access to s clinical mentor and a patient case load.

    You may also apply using a wide range of international certifications.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. A good IELTS score would qualify, for example.
