    Course Summary

    The University of Derby’s BSc degree program in Computer Science is a great way to get to know Computer Science inside and out, and especially from a commercial or industrial perspective.     You’ll work on industry standard hardware and software systems, learning applied computer science, advanced computer programming skills and the ins and outs of software development on a commercial scale.

    This program includes the option of taking an extra year (typically between years ‘2’ and ‘3’) which will be spent in a working placement in an exciting role in the IT or Computer Science field. This could be with a number of commercial or industrial organisations, and can even be a paid position.     Course Outline

    This is a 3 year program for most students. If you opt for the year in working placement, though, it takes 4 years. You’ll begin with the basics but by year three you’ll work with advanced concepts like designing and implementing programming languages, developing systems for enterprise and more.

    Learning & Teaching

    Your contact time with the University of Derby’s professors and teaching staff will consist of a mix of large scale lectures, smaller seminars and in-depth laboratory skills workshops delivered in industry standard project labs. Almost every module in the course will address practical programming in some way. In addition to attending classes, you’ll work on real world computer science projects for organisations like CERN, the EU’s premier nuclear research organisation.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved at least 120 UCAS Tariff Points, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An excellent IELTS score would qualify, for example.
