    Course Summary

    The University of Derby’s MSc program in Strategic Engineering Management is an excellent route to gaining the understanding, skills and advanced techniques you’ll need to build a career with any of the world’s great engineering and manufacturing organisations.     You’ll learn the latest advances in computer modelling and simulation as well as advanced manufacturing techniques. Beyond engineering, though, you’ll learn the management and leadership techniques you’ll need to organise a team of engineers in the office, in the field, or anywhere in between.

    This program can be taken in 1 year at full time, or across up to 3 years at part time. This opens the MBA program up to students with substantial work or family commitments, and allows them to lay the foundations for an exciting, prosperous career in a wide range of industries.

    Course Outline

    This is a 1 year program for most students. If taken at part time, though, it can last for up to 3 years.

    This degree program can be taken as a PgCert (postgraduate certificate), a PgDip (postgraduate Diploma) or as a full MSc. The program is sufficiently flexible that you can begon with the intention of exiting with a PgCert and then stay on for the more advanced PgDip or MSc degree by successfully completing more modules. An MSc can only be awarded on completion of your Independent Scholarship and dissertation.

    Learning & Teaching

    The University of Derby’s MSc in Strategic Engineering Management is delivered by a range of teaching methods including intensive lecture classes, practical and work-related skills sessions, computer lab sessions, interactive seminars and a great deal of self-directed reading and study. Your progress will be assessed through coursework and exams, and will include both individual and group work. The full MSc can only be awarded on completion of a satisfactory dissertation.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1 year MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have achieved at least a 2:2 honours degree in Science or Engineering, or the international equivalent. Beyond that, a wide range of qualifications are accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An excellent IELTS score would qualify, for example.
