    Course Summary

    The University of East Anglia’s Computing Science MSc program is designed for graduates in non-computer science subjects. It is intended to give you a working knowledge of computes, how they operate, how they are programmed and how they make modern life, business and science possible. You will also study research Techniques more generally, giving you vita transferrable skills which can be applied to work I nearly any industry.

    You will have access to more than just the core curriculum, though. You can select from a wide range of elective modules to ensure that your education gives you a useful, marketable specialty in a sub-set of the Computing Science field which suits your personal interests.

    Course Outline

    This is a 1 year, three term degree program.

    Term 1:

    Your first term will be spent acquiring a basic set of computer related skills which will allow you to get the most form more advanced modules in your second term. Your first term modules will include:

    • Application Programming
    • Database Manipulation
    • Internet & Multimedia Techniques

    Term 2:

    Your second term will build upon the principles you’ve learned in the first. You can select 60 credits of elective modules for yourself, personalising your educational experience and developing your own specialty. Recent options have included:

    • Machine Learning & Data Mining
    • Software Engineering & System Development
    • Computer Graphics & Vision
    • Distributed & Cloud Computing
    • Embedded Technologies

    Term 3:

    Term three will be dedicated to a 60 credit dissertation. The exact topic of your dissertation will depend on your interests and your chosen specialty. You’ll select the topic with the aid and guidance of the academic faculty. Depending on the dissertation’s quality, it may even see publication.

    Learning & Teaching

    The UEA’s Computing Science degree program is based equally on research-led teaching and cutting edge practical skills derived from experts in a wide range of industries. Laboratory session will be common, as will large lectures and smaller seminars or group projects. You should also plan to do a great deal of independent study each week.

    Career Possiblities

    Many UEA Computing Science graduates use the knowledge, practical skills and flexibility they have gained with this MSc degree to enter the workforce in a very wide range of different industries.     Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    Applicants for the University of East Anglia’s Computing Science MSc program must have achieved a 2:1 degree at the undergraduate (Bachelor’s) level.

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students

    In addition you must be able to show that you are fluent in written and spoken English. An IELTS level of no less than 6.5 overall, and no less than 6.0 in any one component is accetable proof, but other proofs are accepted. For more details, see here.
