    Course Summary

    The University of East Anglia’s International Development and the Environment BSc (with Overseas Experience) is a great way to prepare yourself to work in any of the public and private sector roles linking the environment to industrial and social development. This could mean developing an expertise in resource management, rural livelihood improvement, sustainable development or a host of other applications.

    This three year degree program includes 12 to 16 weeks in overseas work placement.     Course Outline

    This is a 3 year program for most students, including your overseas placement.

    Year 1:

    Your first year in the University of East Anglia’s International Development and the Environment BSc program will include an introduction to the discipline and the debates and issues which affect it at the moment. You will also select 2 modules form the elective list, to begin specialising your education.

    Year 2:

    In your second year, you’ll build on your studies of the environment and how to manage its resources. You’ll also study formal research methods and techniques. You will be able to select elective modules from a wide range of topics, further developing your subject matter and/or regional expertise.

    Year 3:

    For the first part of your third year you will participate in a field-based course in Ireland or Scotland. While you are there you will learn to apply the theoretical knowledge you’ve gained so far.

    Next, you’ll complete your dissertation during year 3.

    (Placement):

    As part of your final year, you’ll spend 3 to 4 months working on a real world development project, as well as completing the Development Work Experience module based on your activities.

    Learning & Teaching

    The UEA teaches International Development using lecture classes, smaller seminars and a series of interactive exercises. You’ll gain experience with making presentations and arguments well, and finally with the research methods which will inform your dissertation. Of course, you will also have the benefit of a field project and an international placement term as well.

    Career Possiblities

    Many UEA International Development graduates go on to higher level educational programs, pursing an MA or even a PhD. Others work in public sector development projects with the United Nations World Food Program, charities, or various world governments and NGOs.

    Entry Credit

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    Applicants for the University of East Anglia’s Computer Systems BEng program must have achieved 3 A Levels at ABB or higher or an equivalent qualification.

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students

    You must have equivalent academic achievements to those required for UK and EU students. The different qualifications accepted by the UEA can be found here.

    In addition you must be able to show that you are fluent in written and spoken English. An IELTS level of no less than 6.5 overall, and no less than 6.0 in any one component is accetable proof, but other tests are also valid. For more details, see here.
