    Course Summary

Becoming a doctor is not so much a career as a vocation, a duty one feels called to. It is challenging, even demanding, but it is very rewarding on both a personal and professional level.

The University of East Anglia’s Medicine MB BS program is delivered by their famed Norwich School of Medicine. There, you and a diverse class of other young medical students will learn how to make a difference in the lives of your patients, in a student-centred learning environment amidst a thriving youth culture. You will learn to apply new skills in practical, clinical situations, and develop the real world patient relations abilities you’ll need to really make a positive difference in the lives of your patients.

You will gain vital clinical experience from your very first weeks in the program, and benefit from the ability to apply what you’ve learned in a real-world basis every single week.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Course Outline

The UEA and Norwich School of Medicine’s MB BS degree program is module-based, each module dealing with one particular body system. Together, they will ensure you become a well-rounded graduate with a solid understanding of the biological and social sciences as well as a deep understanding of the clinical skills that make truly great doctors.

To ensure this, you will have placements with GPs, hospitals and other clinical settings almost every week. This will be informed and reinforced by a regular schedule of lectures, seminars and other taught classes as well as several longer attachments to secondary care facilities.

    Learning & Teaching

The UEA’s Medicine MB BS degree is student-oriented, but it all really revolves around real world patients in need of quality care. Your curriculum is fully GMC (General Medical Council) approved, and meets all of their rigorous academic and practical standards.

You’ll work in small groups to apply PBL (Problem Based Learning) in both simulated and actual clinical situations. It is a very practical, hands-on course which will better prepare you for the actual practice of medicine.

    Career Possiblities

Once you have successfully completed an MB BS program like the one at UEA’s Norwich Medical School (and are assessed to be fit to practice), you can register provisionally with the GMC, and can practice in a recognised Foundation Year One capacity. Full registration can come as soon as one year later.
