    Course Outline

    This course is delivered over a single year as an MSc or over 9 months if taken as a Diploma.

    • Economics of Renewable Energy

    This module will make students familiar with the economic realities of the renewables sector, and possible solutions to industry problems.

    • Critical Analysis and Research Preparation

    This module explores how to plan a R&D project, how to work with supervisors, how to do background research, and the essentials of academic writing.

    • Foundations of Energy

    Here you’ll learn about energy production and consumption, and the environmental impact of different energy sources.

    • Advanced Renewable Energy Engineering

    This module looks at designing renewable energy systems and the challenges designers are most likely to face.

    • Critical Analysis and Research Preparation

    Here you’ll learn how to analyse energy matters critically, and prepare yourself to conduct and deliver your dissertation.

    • Masters Dissertation

    This will be a substantial piece of work on a renewable energy-related topic, conducted with the guidance of academic staff.

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-nationals

    The University of Heriot-Watt typically requires students to have already achieved a first class or second class honours degree in a related subject. However, they accept a wide range of UK and overseas qualifications of similar quality.  

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non-EU) students                         

    International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.5 or better overall, or a range of similar test types.

    International students must also have academic accreditation equivalent to that required for UK and EU students. This includes many degrees from non-UK universities.
