    Course Summary

    The University of Hertfordshire’s BEng in Mechanical Engineering will give you not only the core knowledge and skills you’ll need to work as a mechanical engineer in almost any industry, it will allow you to build a specialty in flight and aircraft systems and/or the computer and electronics systems used in the aerospace and aeronautics industries.

    However, aerospace engineering is not the only specialty on offer. If automotive engineering is closer to your interests and intended career pathway, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute work and expertise to the university’s Class 20Formula Student Car.

    This course includes the option of taking a fully integrated professional placement at one of Hertfordshire’s partner organisations in your third year.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to build a cache of real world skills within your intended specialty, and also to begin building a professional contact network at a time when other students are still behind a desk.

    If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits.     Learning & Teaching

    Hertfordshire’s teaching methods are largely traditional, as befits a heavily business-focused university. These methods include extensive use of large lectures, smaller seminars and interactive tutorials, as well as a great deal of group and individual study.

    In addition, the school’s StudyNet system allows you to access learning resources and submit coursework for some modules from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.

    Your progress will be assessed on your coursework and exam results.

    Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 year BEng degree.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall with no section scoring less than 5.5 would qualify, for example.
