    Course Summary

The University of Huddersfield’s LLB in Law and Criminology is unusual, as it includes a year in professional work placement as an option between years 2 and 3 of the program. It is highly advised that you take advantage of this opportunity if you enter into the program. Not only will it give you the chance to cement the theory you’ve learned with actual, real world experience, it will help you begin building the professional network upon which you’ll base your entire career.

You’ll explore the core concepts of the law generally, as this is a qualifying legal degree. In addition, though, you’ll also explore the science of criminology. You’ll be able to select from a wide range of electives, gaining expertise in sub-fields like human rights law, comparative criminology or the way criminology relates to the administration of justice. You’ll also have access to mentoring schemes run by several of the university’s Partners in Law.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
