    Course Summary

    Any Business MSc from the University of Huddersfield prepares you to either open up your own organisation or to join an established business in a leadership or professional capacity. This program also includes content specific to the pharmaceutical industry.

    You’ll explore the principles that influence drug delivery, and be able to design pharmaceuticals not just for medical effect but to follow business strategy and market demands. You’ll study real-world examples and case studies from within the pharmaceutical industry. You’ll learn the theory behind these principles, as well as the statistical understanding and computer skills you’ll need to operate the latest industry standard software packages.

    You’ll gain extremely important practical laboratory skills as well. By the time you graduate, you’ll be able to use cutting edge analytical equipment for yourself. You’ll have used the latest analytical techniques and operated the exact same pharmaceutical production equipment the industry is using today.

    Course Outline

    This MSc program is delivered over 1 year at full time.

    The Pharmacology modules you’ll study include:

    • Formulation Design and Development – step by step exploration of everything from new drug identification to bringing the finished product to market
    • Data Treatment and Analysis – statistical theory as applied to the analysis of laboratory data
    • Pharmaceutical Preparations and their Testing – Extending your knowledge of chemical testing to include formulated pharmaceutical products

    You’ll also choose one of the following optional modules:

    • Practical Skills for Analysts
    • Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis

    The Business modules you’ll study include:

    • Marketing Communications – the role of planning, evaluation and strategy in marketing communications
    • Managing People in Organisations – critical analysis and evaluation of human resource management and organisational behaviour
    • Finance for Managers – you’ll learn to use financial information and quantitative skills to improve performance and decision making
    • Strategic Management – analysing organisations and environments to make better strategic choices

    You will also deliver a Pharmaceutical Business Project in the final semester.

    Learning & Teaching

    The University of Huddersfield’s Department of Pharmacy encourages their researchers to include the latest results of their investigations into the classroom.     In addition, you’ll be taught by staff of the Business School, many of whom have worked extensively in Product Management and related fields. Together, they can give you a unique perspective of the pharmaceutical industry as a business.

On the business side, the University of Huddersfield is a Chartered Management Institute Higher Education Partner. You’ll have the option of taking CMI certification as part of your studies.     Entry Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1 year MSc degree.

    Applicants must typically have a 2:2 or better Honours degree in Pharmacy or the Pharmaceutical Sciences. The full list of accepted qualifications can be found here.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test. An IELTS score of 6.0 overall and with no less than 6.0 in reading and writing would qualify, for example.
