    Course Summary

    A Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) degree will give you the scientific, practical and clinical skills you need to become a doctor. It qualifies you to register (provisionally) with the GMC (General Medical Council) and begin working under the UK Foundation Training Program as a doctor.

    This program is delivered in partnership with the University of Nottingham in Lincolnshire. The degree is offered by Nottingham, and classes are taught by staff from both universities. Applications are to be made through the UCAS, and you must select the University of Nottingham BMBS (Lincoln Pathway).

    Course Outline

    This is a qualifying medical degree program, and is delivered over 5 years at full time including multiple clinical placements.

    Year 1

    Core Modules:

    • Musculoskeletal and Trauma
    • Professional Basis of Medicine
    • Respiratory and Cardiovascular Medicine
    • Scientific Basis of Medicine

    In addition, you will have access to many electives in the second term of year 1.

    Year 2

    Core Modules:

    • Central Nervous System
    • Endocrine and Reproduction
    • Gastrointestinal Medicine
    • Integrated Module
    • Renal

    There will also be many electives available to help you build your specialty.

    Year 3

    Core Modules:

    • Clinical Phase 1 – Clinical Practice
    • Clinical Phase 1 – Community Follow-Up Project
    • Clinical Phase 1 – Therapeutics
    • Honours Year Project

    • The Treatment and Prevention of Infection

    Learning And Teaching

    Many of the academic staff delivering the modules of this program are actively engaged in research that has been ranked as either internationally excellent or world leading. They will deliver contact time in lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and of course as clinical placements. In addition students will engage in a great deal of independent study.

    Career Possibilities

    The BMBS degree you will receive on successful completion of this program is a PMQ (Primary Medical Qualification). So long as you are found Fit to Practice, you may register with the GMC and begin your 2 year Foundation Doctor Training. Full registration is typically granted at the end of the first of these 2 years.

    Entry & Credit

    Entry Requirements for UK and EU-Nationals

    The BMBS program typically requires applicants to have achieved 3 A levels at AAA or better, which should include Chemistry and either Biology or Human Biology. A range of other, equivalent qualifications are also accepted.

    In addition, all applicants must take and pass the UK Clinical Aptitude Test.

     

    Entry Requirements for overseas (non EU) students

    International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated with an excellent IELTS score. Again, a number of equivalent qualifications are accepted.

    They must also have academic accreditation equivalent to that required for UK and EU students.
