Many of these faculty have been recognised nationally or internationally for their accomplishments.

Economics itself is a fast moving field, and quite a lucrative one for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the private sector. Many career pathways are available, often involving some degree of applied economic modelling and market prediction. Of course roles are available in the public sector, in academia, in teaching or in setting economic policy as well. Finally, there are many not for profit options.

You’ll explore many topics, but you’ll have to select between 2 main degree pathways, one in Economics and Econometrics and another which focuses more on Economics and Society.

    Course Outline

There are two main degree pathways to choose between here, the E&S pathway or the E&E pathway.

    Economics and Society Pathway

The E&S pathway is focused largely on tracking the distribution of wealth and bower, and how that distribution affects people socioeconomically as well as its effects on the actual physical environment. The courses you’ll take in the E&S stream are highly variable, and will align wit your own interests and particular career goals. After all, the principles of Economics can be applied to nearly any field of human endeavour.

    Economics and Econometrics Pathway

The E&E pathway instead focuses on theory. You’ll explore higher mathematics and statistics, and learn to apply them to economic considerations. This is an excellent choice for those looking into an academic career or who wish to progress their studies to the PhD level. It is also a good way to learn higher level economic modelling skills.

    Learning And Teaching

University of Manitoba relies in many standard teaching methods, including formal lectures, interactive tutorials and skills sessions and seminar style classes. It is also a major research university, and you will have plenty of opportunities to participate in that research tradition first hand, either through your thesis component or arranged research projects. The Economics MSc program also allows you to take advantage of several blended and online learning options.

    Career Possibilities

The best way to improve your odds of landing a highly sought-after role after graduation is to select the courses you’ll take based on what that role, industry or position demands. The university can help you explore the requirements of many industries throughout Canada and abroad, to help make this planning process easier and more accurate. Of course, you’ll have you’ll have many general skills which could lead to a career in a completely unrelated field as well.
