    Course Summary

The University of Ottawa’s BSocSc program in Economics is delivered by the Department of Economics, and is almost by definition one of their flagship undergraduate programs. It seeks to show you how to analyse problems involving the consumption, distribution and production of scarce resources, and show you how to help businesses, governmental organisations and other bodies make more efficient use of that they have available.

You’ll learn how to study everything from investment, inflation and interest rates to unemployment, productivity and currency exchange. You’ll learn how people make economic choices and how to help them make better ones.

This program is presented as a major field of study, but you can also pursue a limited version of the Computer Science major as a minor, and seek to apply it to nearly any other field of study.

You’ll be able to take many of your classes in French or in English throughout the entire program.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.
