    Course Summary

    Health Studies is a broad field which includes all aspects of health, wellness and illness. It includes both mental and physical health and seeks to understand the issue from as many perspectives as possible. These include looking at the way environmental, social, cultural and biological influences affect the health and wellbeing of individuals and groups. 

    A BA or BSc in Health Studies from the University of Saskatchewan could prepare you for graduate school, or for a wide range of careers in the industry, either in Canada or abroad. Whether you take the program as a BA or as a BSc, you’ll be able to choose between three different degree streams. These include:

    • Biology, Development and Health 
    • Individual, Society and Health 
    • Culture, Environment and Health

    Like most of USask’s degree programs, this one includes the option to boost to your employability with co-operative or experiential learning programs. Eitherwill ensure that you get real world working experience within your chosen career, industry or niche, as well as a chance to prove your abilities to at least one potential employer.

    Learning And Teaching

    The University of Saskatchewan strives to use both traditional and innovative techniques appropriate to each degree they offer. For example, you’ll attend large lecture classes but also smaller and more interactive seminars and tutorial sessions. Many subjects have experiential or co-operative learning content, and you’ll learn a great many practical skills of all kinds. 

    This degree can be taken as BA or a BSc. Before deciding between them, you should consult with one of the university’s academic advisors. 

    Career Possibilities

    This degree will prepare you well for several different graduate degree programs, or for a wide range of different careers. Many Health Studies students pursue professional degrees in medicine, for example. Recent graduates of USask’s Health Studies BA and BSc programs have become Community Workers, Counsellors, Health And Social Policy Developers, Health And Social Program Administrators, Health Care Workers, Health Educators, Public Administrators, Researchers, Social Services Workers and more. 

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 4 year BA or BSc degree.

    To enter any of USask’s undergraduate programs, you’ll need to have a secondary education with an admission average of 24, though international qualifications are also accepted.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
