    Course Summary

Biology is nothing less than the study of life in all of its forms and varieties. It incorporates everything from biochemistry and molecular biology all the way up to physiology and morphology. It includes looking at tiny viruses and one celled organisms in isolation, and seeing the great patterns which connect life forms in forests, oceans and other natural habitats.

You can study all this from a generalist perspective, or you can specialise in a sub field such as:

    • A pre-medicine or pre-veterinary concentration
    • A cellular, molecular, and genetics concentration
    • An ecology and biology of organisms concentration

The University of the Fraser Valley’s BSc in Biology is one of the most laboratory skills focused program in British Columbia, and will definitely see its students learning the kind of hands on skills they will need to begin their careers as the next generation of skilled lab workers, academic researchers and clinical specialists.

If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits. Our network of contacts, a dedicated employability service and a reputation in the legal profession mean we also have an outstanding track-record of finding students legal employment. Many employers favour GDL students in an increasingly competitive legal job market. Through studying another degree subject, you will have gained many transferable skills. By taking the conversion route into law, you are showing motivation and determination by choosing law at a later stage than some others. This looks good to employers.

    Learning And Teaching

UFV strives to use both traditional and innovative techniques in its undergraduate programs. This program features a co-op semester, which will give you vital real world experience within your specialty.

You’ll attend formal lecture classes, practical skills sessions, laboratories, problem solving exercises, and small scale tutorial sessions as well. You’ll also have the support of the school’s Academic Advisors to help you plot the best educational course for yourself and your career.

    Career Possibilities

Biology Careers are varied, and typically well-paid. Many recent graduates of UFV’s Biology BSc program have become graduate students in sub-fields like Microbiology, Ecology, Neuroscience, Environmental Toxicology, Biotechnology and more. Others have gone directly into the work force, putting their labwork and fieldwork skills to use in fields like agriculture, public health, geographical survey work, the food and drugs industries, the fish and wildlife service, land management or environmental protection efforts.

    Entry & Credit

Successful completion will result in a 4 year BSc degree.
