    UWaterloo’s Department of Management Science has a long history of producing highly skilled graduates through the use of innovative techniques and well-constructed educational systems. Their faculty is drawn from among the best in the world, and have very wide ranging research foci. 

    Management Science is a highly interdisciplinary field. It looks at the ways organisations solve their problems, make decisions and set both internal and external policies. It relies in everything from insight from the behavioural sciences and pure data science to complex statistical and analytical models. You’ll learn to apply these methods to any of three core specialisations:

    • Applied Operations Research
    • Information Systems
    • Management of Technology

    This is a research-intensive degree program, and one where you will learn the research and writing skills you’ll need to found wither an academic career or one where you apply your deep understanding of how to lead and manage people in the public, private or not for profit sectors. 

    If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness.     Course Outline

    This degree program is typified by very small cohort sizes and an excellent student-to instructor ratio. It typically consists of 8 months of coursework followed by 12 months of work on a capstone research paper.

    It should be noted that truly exceptional MASc students will be considered for admission directly to UWaterloo’s PhD program in Management Sciences. If you are interested in pursuing this route, you should make the university aware of this upon application my stating so on your Supplementary Information Form. 

    Learning And Teaching

    The University of Waterloo’s Management Sciences MASc program is delivered primarily by the Faculty of Engineering, one of the most respected at the university. It is conveyed via lectures, tutorials and seminars, though you will participate in skills workshops and special events as well. 

    All of Waterloo’s degree programs focus in ‘the three Es’, Education, Experience and Employment. They include extensive work based and co-operative education options which yield valuable hand-on experience and improve neatly any CV.

    Career Possibilities

    This degree will prepare you well for a wide range of roles, or to take your academic career to the PhD level. Graduates have gone on to become high level researchers and educators in Management Sciences and many tangential fields as well.  

    UWaterloo Management Science students who do not become researchers have gone on to found their own businesses and consultancies, to take on leadership or general management roles in businesses as well as public and not for profit sector organisations. 

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1-2 year MASc degree.

    Applicants must typically have completed an Honours Baccalaureate degree or the international equivalent. Great weight will be given to the GRE score as well.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
