    Mathematics is the basis for almost every other science, in that it provides a way to collect and process data about the world around us and about abstract concepts which have no physical representation at all.

    University of Winnipeg’s Mathematics BSc degree program allows you to specialise in a wide range of mathematical disciplines, ranging from Philosophy to Computer and Data Science, or from Finance to Physics. A first degree in Mathematics has led many a student to a PhD in a math related field, but nearly as many have gone into Medicine, Law or Business.  

    This degree program can be taken as a 3 year BSc, a 4 year BSc, a 3 year BSc with a Business focus, a 4 year BSc with a Business focus, or as a 4 year Honours BSc suitable for progression into graduate level studies. The Business stream is delivered in cooperation with the Faculty of Business.

    If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness. Many employers actively seek candidates with these benefits.     Learning And Teaching

    University of Winnipeg relies on both standard and innovative teaching techniques to convey the content of this degree. These typically include small scale lectures, tutorials and interactive skills sessions as well as seminar style classes. It is a heavily research-focused school, and you will be able to contribute to these programs even at the undergraduate level. 

    The Mathematics program includes a very flexible course of study which allows you to build your own specialty by adding elective modules.

    Career Possibilities

    Many UWinnipeg Mathematics graduates have gone on to graduate studies, and eventually to PhD level work. This path is particularly attractive to those who took the program as an Honours BSc. Many who opted for the 3 year degree will go immediately into the job market, accepting roles in computers, insurance, telecommunications, physics, engineering or biology. Those who opt for the business focus may find themselves taking on roles relating more to finance, economics, management or law.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 3 or 4 year BSc degree or a 4 year Honours BSc degree.

     Applicants must typically have completed a Canadian secondary school education or the international equivalent.   

     All classes are taught in English unless otherwise noted, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
