    Course Summary

    A BSc in Nursing from Vancouver Island University is a practical, fast paced and highly respected route to a career in nursing. It will give you all of the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in this demanding field, as well as a great deal of patient facing clinical experience. 

    Note that this program includes the opportunity to study abroad, gaining international experience as you continue your education in Ghana. 

    This program is fully accredited by the CASN (Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing), had has been approved by the CRNBC (College of Registered Nurses, British Columbia). Once you have successfully completed all 8 taught semesters and all three summer Practical Experiences you’ll be qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Success there will qualify you to be registered with the CRNBC. Alternatively, you could pursue a wide range of health and life sciences degrees at the Master’s level.

    Learning And Teaching

    VIU offers many different learning and teaching methods, using both traditional and innovative techniques in its academic programs. This program features extensive clinical work in experience modules, as well as the opportunity to study abroad.

    You’ll attend formal lecture classes, practical skills sessions, problem solving exercises, and small scale tutorial sessions as well. You’ll have the support of the school’s academic advisors to help you plot the best post-graduation career pathway, as well.  

    Career Possibilities

    When you graduate you’ll be able to take the qualifying exam to become a Registered Nurse, working in emergency, cardiac, intensive care, indigenous health, paediatrics or nursing education. However, that is not your only option. Skilled nursing professional take on many different roles in government agencies, in community services like home care or public health, at hospitals and multi-level care facilities in gerontology, and in international or travel nursing. 

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 4 year BSN degree.

    To enter VIU’s BSN program, you’ll need to present your High School Transcripts, International Baccalaureate or similar international qualifications. These must include Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English at a 2.5 or better.

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
