    Course Summary

    Accounting is an incredibly useful specialty to have if you wish to pursue any kind of business career. You can study to become a professional accountant of course. York University’s Schulich Master of Accounting (MAcc) program is fully accredited by both the ACCA (the global Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and CPA Ontario (Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario).

     However, an advanced understanding of the procedures and techniques of accounting can give a serious edge to your general management, project management or management accounting career as well. You’ll learn many professional skills in this program, and you’ll have many options.  

    You can further specialise your degree by taking different optional modules, and co-operative opportunities are available within Canada or greater North America as well. These will be equally useful whether you intend to pursue an academic career at the Research Degree level, whether you’d prefer to pursue professional certification, or whether you prefer to transition directly into the job market.  

    If you are changing direction after starting in another career area, you will possess valuable work experience and professional awareness.     Course Outline

    This degree program is typically delivered over 1-2 years of full time or part time study.

    There are three different versions of the program, and each is appropriate to students with different academic backgrounds.

    • The Diploma in Intermediate Accounting (DIAc) is designed for graduates in a non-business field. It is also a good entry point for students who have first degrees from educational institutions outside of Canada who nonetheless meet all of the prerequisites for the MAcc generally. This version begins in the summer term.
    • If you are entering the program from a business degree from a Canadian institution or some other CPA accredited program, you’ll begin in the fall.
    • If you graduated from Schulich itself with a BBA or iBBA, you’ll begin in the summer term.

    Learning And Teaching

    York University’s Faculty of Graduate Studies works to combine the best features of both traditional and innovative teaching techniques in all of its programs. You’ll attend formal lecture classes, but also professional simulations and/or practical skills sessions, problem solving exercises, and interactive, small scale tutorial sessions. These can be supplemented by additional learning support provided by Bethune College. You’ll also spend a great deal of time learning academic research and analysis techniques.

    Entry & Credit

    Successful completion will result in a 1-2 year MAcc degree.

    The route you use to enter York University’s Master of Accounting program will depend on your academic background and pervious degree status. 

    All classes are taught in English, and international students will be required to show proficiency in English by scoring well on an approved test.
