The University of Suffolk got its start when the Suffolk Country Council established a group to study the possibility of establishing a university there. This group included both the Suffolk County Council and the Ipswich Borough Council, the Suffolk Learning and Skills Cuncil, the Higher Education Finding Council for England, the East of England Development Agency, as well as schools like West Suffolk College, the University of Essex and the University of East Anglia.
They established the University Campus, Suffolk in 2007, which awarded degrees through both the U or East Anglia and the U of Essex. However, it was granted full degree awarding powers in 2016, becoming the University of Suffolk as we know it now.
