    Pennsylvania State University (Typically referred to as ‘Penn State’) is began its long history in 1855 as the farmer’s High School of Pennsylvania. Despite the name, this was a degree granting institution from the very beginning. It adopted the more conventional name of Agricultural College of Pennsylvania in 1862, and became the state’s first land-grant college in 1863. It became Pennsylvania State College in 1874, as it brought in classical education elements in addition to its existing agricultural curriculum.

    By 1936 Penn State was the largest Baccalaureate institution in the state, with an enrolment of some 5,000 students .It officially became The Pennsylvania State University in 1953. 

    Pennsylvania State University today claims a full 24 campuses, 275 separate Baccalaureate degree programs, 100,000 students and 17,000 faculty and staff. In addition, Penn States World Campus offers remote, online education to students all over the world. It proudly stands in the top 1% of the world’s universities, and boasts a total annual budget of more than $3.6 billion.
