    The University of Michigan was originally founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1817. It was originally called both the Catholepistemiad and the University of Michigania. It took the name ‘University of Michigan’ in 1821.The university moved to Ann Arbor in 1837. It still occupies this ‘Central Campus’ today.

    The North Campus was built on 800 acres of land bought in 1952. It houses the School of nformation, the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, the Stamps School of Art & Design, the School of Music, Theatre and Dance and the College of Engineering.

    The University of Michigan – more commonly referred to as U of M – has expanded well beyond Ann Arbor, though. It has 2 dependent regional universities in Dearborn and Flint, Michigan. All of them are dedicated to bringing the people of Michigan and students from all over the world pre-eminence in art, knowledge and academic achievement, and producing the leaders of tomorrow.
