Though very few of us will ever attempt space travel, How to Astronaut: An Insider’s Guide to Leaving Planet Earth is the next best thing.

What does this book cover?

How to Astronaut: An Insider’s Guide to Leaving Planet Earth looks at some of the funniest, oddest and most interesting quirks of the monumental task of actually getting living human beings out past the earth’s atmosphere, into orbit and beyond.

This book explains many little-known facets of space travel, including:

  • Surviving the infamous ‘vomit comet’ weightlessness experience
  • How it really feels to blast off in a rocket
  • How astronauts eat, bathe and conduct day to day activities in an orbiter or on the International Space Station
  • How to suit up for a walk in vacuum
  • What happens if you die in a space ship
  • How long it takes to learn to walk again after months in microgravity

About the Author

Colonel Terry Virts graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a master’s degree on Aeronautical Science. He piloted the Space Shuttle Endeavour on the STS-130 mission, and spent 200 days in command of the International Space Station in 2015. He also appeared in the 2016 film A Beautiful Planet.

Here, he has written a very amusing and often surprising guide to life in space, and how very hard it is to actually get there.
