Arts Chemical Engineering BSc

OSU’s BSc in Chemical Engineering is delivered by the William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. It will prepare you to become a Chemical Engineer – someone who not only performs but also designs and develops the processes by which petroleum products, foods, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals and other chemical goods are produced.

You’ll become an expert in ensuring that this work is done safely and in an environmentally non-disruptive fashion. You’ll know how to use separations and other chemical reactions to produce useful materials and valuable products. You’ll learn to use the tools of the chemical engineer to monitor the state, energy content and composition of working materials, and apply the tools of mathematics and physics to do so with ever greater efficiency.

Biomedical Science BSc

Students get into the Biomedical Sciences for a variety of reasons. Some are planning professional careers as doctors, veterinarians, dentists or something similar. Others plan to attend graduate schools in biochemistry or a related science. Still others are considering a career in bioengineering or bioinformatics. Some simply want to learn more about the science of life and the human body while earning a basic liberal arts education.

If you study for a BSc in Biomedical Science at OSU, you’ll learn a great deal about the scientific, evidence based approach to medicine. You’ll take classes in physiology, anatomy, physics, chemistry and biology, as well as in the classic ‘liberal arts’.

Arts Management BA

OSU’s BA in Arts Management will see you developing business and managerial skills, as well as gaining an expertise in arts and cultural markets and organisations.

No career in the Arts is really simple, and the people who produce goods, services and intangibles for the cultural and contemporary arts industries often call upon business specialists to improve  their access to markets, help them with forming and executing business strategy, and generally to manage the ‘business’ side of their practice. These Arts managers need to know more than business, though. They need to understand the needs of both artists and their ultimate markets in order to better bridge the gap between them.

Anthropology BA

Anthropologists study humanity (and to a lesser extent, the other primates) on many different levels and through many different perspectives. Some specialise in the biological aspects of humanity and its ancestor species. Others focus on prehistory, either generally or regionally. Some focus on studying the cultures of existing human groups and ethnicities, and others specialise in non-human primates. They all seek to better understand what it means to be ‘human’, and to apply that knowledge in ways that improve lives.

OSU’s BA in Anthropology will see you focusing on one of three main subfields in the discipline: Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology or Archaeology. You will take core courses exploring each of them.

Agribusiness and Applied Economics BSc

The Ohio State University’s College of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics offers a very well respected Bachelor of Science degree program in Agribusiness and Applied Economics. The school extends some $50,000 in departmental scholarships to these students every year, based in their leadership ability, activities and academic achievements.

If you study Agribusiness and Applied Economics at OSU, you’ll learn all about the production of agricultural products like food, natural fibres and other ‘bio-based’ commodities. You’ll also learn the kind of business principles you’ll need to market, finance or manage an agribusiness firm either domestically, overseas or on a global scale. These skills also apply to other business careers, of course.

Statistics BSc

Statistics is a specialism within mathematics, with very close ties to data and computer science. Statisticians develop and apply ways to collect, organise and analyse data, or use that data to make predictions about real world events. Some statisticians work alone on the theoretical or procedural levels, but many others work in close association with thinkers and scientists in disciplines touching upon nature, physics, medicine and psychology, among many others.

The University of Manitoba’s Statistics BSc programs will give you the tools you need to build an academic or business career, but you’ll also learn the critical thinking and analysis skills you’ll need to succeed in nearly any other field.

This degree program can be taken as a 4 year Major Degree, a 4 year Honours Degree, a 4 year Joint Honours including a Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics or Actuarial Science component, or with an additional year in Honours or Major Co-op.

Psychology BSc

Psychology is a fascinating and surprisingly wide ranging field with numerous clinical, academic and commercial applications. Anyone who is fascinated by human behaviour or has a need to explore and understand how and why people act, think and respond the way they do could do well in this field.

In either of the University of Manitoba’s Psychology BSc programs, you’ll learn how to apply precise, rigorous scientific processes to what you learn, to apply critical research techniques, and to communicate your results in a clear, professional manner. In addition to what you learn in the classroom, you’ll gain highly marketable laboratory and experimental design skills working in the university’s modern, fully equipped psychology labs, assisting top researchers in potentially world-changing work. You’ll also learn the critical thinking and analysis skills you’ll need to succeed in nearly any other field.

This program can be taken as a 4 year Major Degree or a 4 year Honours Degree, or as a Minor.

Microbiology BSc

Microbiology involves the study of microscopic life – algae, fungi, protozoa, bacteria and even viruses – in order to better understand the massive influence they have on the ecosystem generally, as well as the ways they can be used and manipulated to supply the drugs and materials the modern world relies upon every day.

A BSc in Microbiology from the University of Manitoba will give you a deep understanding of the study of microscopic organisms as well as the kind of practical laboratory skills you’ll need to succeed in a wide range of industrial or research roles. You’ll also learn the critical thinking and analysis skills you’ll need to succeed in nearly any other field.

This degree program can be taken as a 3 year General Degree, a 4 year Major Degree, a 4 year Honours Degree, or a 4 year program with an additional year in an Honours or Major Co-op.
